AN INSIGHT INTO THE DEPARTMENT

Dravya guna vijnana department deals with the various innumerable drugs used in  Ayurveda. It deals with the understanding each drugs individually about their characters both Modern and Ayurveda and the usefull part of the various plants mentioned in ayurveda. According to Ayurveda the various drugs are understood based on their rasa ( taste) guna(qualities like snigdha laghu etc) veerya ( potency namely usna(hot) and sita (cold ) ,vipaka ( the change in the quality after digestion) and prabhava ( special action).This helps to identify the drugs and to have a comprehensive idea regarding the drug regarding their karma and dosha samanatwa since its according to the rasadi characters of the drug and inturn helps to understand the formulations beyond their superficial indications helping them in the clinical practice.

OUR INFRASTRUCTURE

  • The department has well established lab with all the standard to study the basic botany of the drugs. We have preserved specimen of all the main drugs. The facilities makes it enough that all the students can individually do the practicals and study.
  • A herbal garden is maintained by the department which is used for academic purposes. The sessions are conducted at the garden for better understanding.
  • The department library has a good collection of the basic and the standard books on herbal plants,both modern and Ayurved for the reference purposes.
